Family Portrait: McCanless Family

It was a cool Sunday afternoon in August when I met my clients, the McCanless family, in Laguna Beach. Prior to their family, I had been involved in one other family session with my good friend, Priscilla, and served as her 2nd photographer. Admittedly, I was nervous as I am whenever I photograph a client for the first time let alone an entire family. However, I reviewed my notes and selected a familiar and gorgeous spot in Laguna Beach that still had some color and life after going through the Summer season.

Since it was the family’s first time visiting the location, I waited near the crosswalk on the beach side of the location to make sure they wouldn’t get lost. They arrived and parked their car on the other side of the street. After a few minutes, I saw this beautiful family walking down the street from their car and to the lampost waiting their turn to cross. I was smiling from ear to ear and simply couldn’t wait to take my first photograph of them. Aside from their matching clothing ensemble, one could easily tell from their similar smiles and mannerisms, that this group of people was undeniably a family.
