Vigil for Afghanistan 22 Aug 2021 Laguna Beach, CA

A vigil for Afghanistan was held on Sunday evening in Laguna Beach, California. The vigil was organized by various individuals from the Afghan community in Southern California. An estimated 200-300 people of all ages attended the event. During the vigil, multiple people spoke about the concerning situation in Afghanistan over the past couple of weeks and the last 20 years. Some shared their own personal experiences immigrating from Afghanistan to the U.S. The Afghans spoke in Dari, Pashto, and English. Many tears were shed, hugs and handshakes were aplenty, and tons of smiles were shared. Everyone in attendance understood that the people living in Afghanistan suffered for far too long and it was up to the Afghan community in the U.S. and elsewhere to step up and help.
